Throughout the years the Road2Recovery Committee Members give the most valuable gift of all. They give their time, talents, and themselves. They also give back to the community to help a cancer patient's journey. Without these committee members, the Road2Recovery event would not be possible. They devote their time and ideas to make each event successful, and are committed to helping people in our community. Cancer research has come a long way, and I am living proof that they are doing a great job! ~ Tammy Zaccolo

This is my 6th year as a volunteer for Road2Recovery. I started volunteering when I found out that my good friend, Tammy Zaccolo was fighting her battle against cancer and was donating her time in making a difference. This event is very important to me as this horrible disease has affected too many special people in my life. I figured there was always time to help save lives!!! The little amount of time I spend on this charity is only a small contribution in raising funds for cancer research. My small efforts along with yours, all add up and together we can continue our fight.

This is my third year being involved with the Road2Recovery event where I coordinate media promotions and solicit in-kind donations. As one of Tammy's students in Humber's Event Management program, I was inspired by her story. Her dedication to supporting Sunnybrook and cancer research motivated me to get involved with this event. In addition to Road2Recovery, I am also actively involved with the annual Terry Fox Run.

As an Advertising Client Service Manager, I have an opportunity to work with a lot of charitable organizations, choosing which organization and how much time I should devote has always been a challenge. I'm always torn when I cannot give enough time. Then I met Tammy at Humber College, heard her story...a light bulb went on...it's not about how many organizations you volunteer for, it's about the cause and the journey, choosing one organization to devote my time is suffice. I chose Road2Recovery, raising funds for cancer research for the past 4 years has been a humbling experience for me, and the journey is far from complete in raising these much needed funds. I met Tammy while studying Event Management at Humber College a few years ago. When she told us how she got started in the business, it was very inspiring and I wanted to know more. So naturally I was excited when she was recruiting volunteers for her 7th Annual Road2Recovery Gala Event. I have been sitting on the volunteer committee ever since and it has been an extremely rewarding experience. Cancer is a disease that affects us all in some way. This event is a way to directly help out those going through treatment. I dedicate my work here to all of the special people in my life who have survived, to those who are still fighting and of course, to the angels who have moved on.

Although I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer at the Road2Recovery event in previous years, this is the first year I’ve been a part of the committee on a larger scale.  I believe ‘paying it forward’ is important and what could be a better way to do just that, raising money for a great cause.  Cancer has touched my life in more ways than one; my mom is a survivor of breast cancer and my ‘Hero’, Tammy is another survivor and one of my closest friends and my uncle, may his soul rest in peace.  I genuinely believe in the purpose of the Road2Recovery event and its mission; Tammy’s dedication is truly inspirational.
