Road2Recovery is an annual event that supports cancer research at the Edmond Odette Cancer Centre at The Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The event is coordinated by Tammy Zaccolo, and a dedicated volunteer committee. The gala takes place every October for the past decade. The event features a sit-down dinner, dancing, silent auction, raffle prizes, and entertainment. The main focus of this event is to celebrate life, remember the people we have lost to cancer, and especially to raise funds for this much needed cause. All proceeds from this annual event are donated to The Sunnybrook Foundation. Organizing Road2Recovery every year, Tammy Zaccolo draws on the same passion, energy and determination that helped her overcome a diagnosis of Hodgkin’s Disease (lymphoma) in November 1999, when she was just 25. During the course of her treatment at the Edmond Odette Cancer Centre, Tammy realized that with the right combination of loving support, expert care and inner strength, miracles really CAN happen. Tammy applies those same principles to Road2Recovery. With the generous support of the community, she has been able to give back to the dedicated and caring team of healthcare professionals at Sunnybrook. The money raised by Road2Recovery is helping Tammy’s oncologist, Dr. Neil Berinstein, Director of The Advanced Therapeutics Program, fulfill his mandate of providing state of the art innovative treatment for patients suffering from lymphoma and other forms of cancer. The continued success of Road2Recovery allows Tammy to fulfill her own dreams of making a difference in the lives of cancer patients. Because, when we work together to fight cancer, we discover that we all have the power to make miracles happen.
